WordPress → React Migration for National Hole in One Registry
My role

Full-Stack Developer · React, Node.js, MySQL

  • Designed the MySQL data model for verified hole-in-one records, replacing ad-hoc WordPress posts.
  • Built the Node.js API and the React.js front end for fast record search and browsing.
  • Developed the purpose-built CMS so the registry team manages records and content themselves.
  • Migrated existing WordPress content and retired the WordPress stack, cutting server costs by 40%.
The challenge

Since 2006 the National Hole in One Registry has been the official record keeper for golf's most exciting shot.

The WordPress site had become slow and hard to scale, its backend wasn't designed for structured achievement data, and even simple updates needed technical help.

The solution

A React.js application on a Node.js and MySQL backend with a custom CMS designed around achievement records, plus performance tuning to make searching records fast.

01

Structured data

A MySQL model built for verified records, not blog posts.

02

React.js front end

A fast, app-like experience for golfers searching records.

03

Purpose-built CMS

Editors manage content and records without developer help.

04

Leaner hosting

Removing WordPress overhead cut server costs by 40%.

The results
  • Pages load 75% faster for golfers searching achievement records.
  • Server costs fell 40% once the WordPress overhead was gone.
  • The platform scales with a growing database of achievements.
